Kimi Raikkonen: A Unique Personality and Passionate Sportsperson

Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 F1 world champion, is renowned for his distinctive personality and no-nonsense approach both on and off the race track. Known for his succinct responses to questions, Raikkonen’s passion for racing was unwavering, but his journey to choosing a career in Formula 1 was not without its dilemmas.

As a young athlete in Finland, Raikkonen found himself torn between two passions: ice hockey, a sport deeply beloved in his country, and racing. Ultimately, his love for speed and adrenaline led him to choose racing, but his fondness for ice hockey continues to remain.

Off the race track, Kimi Raikkonen can often be seen indulging in his passion for ice hockey. Recently, his wife Minttu shared an Instagram story showcasing their son, Robin, practicing ice hockey at home. Given Robin’s repeated interest in the sport, it is evident that the young boy may have inherited his father’s passion.

Considering Kimi Raikkonen’s own athletic background and dedication to sports, there is a realistic possibility that Robin might follow in his father’s footsteps. Interestingly, Kimi himself opted against pursuing a career in ice hockey due to a somewhat unusual reason—he simply did not want to wake up early for morning practices.

In 2021, after an illustrious two-decade-long career spanning from 2001 to 2021, Kimi Raikkonen decided to retire from Formula 1. Throughout his impressive journey, he secured 21 race victories and graced the podium on 103 occasions.

The pinnacle of Raikkonen’s racing career was undoubtedly his championship victory in the 2007 season with Ferrari. Remarkably, this victory stands as Ferrari’s last championship win to date, making it even more memorable.

Over the years, Kimi Raikkonen represented various constructors in Formula 1. He began his career with Red Bull Sauber Petronas in 2001 and quickly caught the attention of McLaren, joining them in the following season. His time at McLaren saw him finish as the championship runner-up twice.

In 2007, Raikkonen joined Ferrari, and in his very first season with the team, he secured the championship title. Following a brief hiatus from F1 to explore other forms of motorsport, including Rally and NASCAR from 2009 to 2011, Raikkonen returned to F1 with the Lotus team in 2011. Subsequently, he rejoined Ferrari in 2014, where he spent five successful seasons. Finally, he wrapped up his F1 career with Alfa Romeo from 2019 to 2021 before deciding to retire.

Since bidding farewell to the high-speed world of F1, Kimi Raikkonen now devotes more of his time to his beloved family. His dedication to racing and his unique personality have left an indelible mark on the sport, making him a true legend in the world of Formula 1.
