Forward Callahan Burke, formerly with the Colorado Avalanche, has joined the Hurricanes in a trade that sent defenseman Caleb Jones to the Avalanche. This strategic move bolsters the Hurricanes’ forward lineup and enhances their organizational depth.

Callahan Burke, 26, is a versatile two-way winger known for his skill on the ice. Having played two NHL games with Colorado, Burke made his debut on December 7, 2022, against Boston.

During his time in the American Hockey League (AHL), he accumulated an impressive record of 74 points, including 30 goals and 44 assists, across 160 games. Burke’s prowess extends to his college years, where he amassed 88 points, with 36 goals and 52 assists, in 146 games while serving as the captain of the Notre Dame team from 2016 to 2020.

Hailing from Boxborough, Massachusetts, Burke is not just a talented player in the NHL; he also represented the United States at the 2015 World Junior A Challenge, contributing to the team’s bronze medal victory.

On the other side of the trade, Caleb Jones, a 26-year-old defenseman weighing in at 194 pounds and standing at 6’1”, departs the Hurricanes after scoring one goal in three preseason contests in 2023. With 217 career NHL games under his belt, playing for both Edmonton and Chicago, Jones has accumulated 50 points, including 14 goals and 36 assists. His experience and skills have made him a valuable asset on the ice.

Don Waddell expressed his confidence in the new addition, stating, “Callahan is a solid, two-way winger who will add to our organizational depth at forward.” This move demonstrates the Hurricanes’ commitment to strengthening their roster and pursuing success in the upcoming NHL season.
